Mediation is less expensive than going through divorce litigation trials.

To file a complaint for divorce in New Jersey, the divorce needs to be filed in the courts in the county in which you both live (or lived, if separated).

New Jersey is a no-fault state therefore, it does not matter who files for the divorce.

In Some cases, during the process of litigating your divorce, the judge may order you and your spouse to settle your disputes with a mediator.  Mediators are often successful in helping parties reach agreements.

Mediation is less expensive than going to trial or sorting out expectations and ideas in the presence of two opposing lawyers.  When an agreement is reached during mediation, the settlement agreement between the parties can be produced to finalize the divorce. If an agreement is not met a lawyer would need to be retained to prepare you for trial.  However, only one percent of cases go to trial which can be very costly.

Divorce can be emotionally and financially draining.  Mediation provides you with the time to discuss your issues at your own pace and settle disputes prior to filing for a divorce.

The grieving process can be overwhelming and mediation provides the necessary resources to restructure the family into two units.
